Eminem reveals his Top 12 diss tracks of all time feat Ice Cube, Nas, Dr. Dre & more.
Earlier this week Eminem announced that he will appear on his Radio Channel Shade 45 where he will reveal his Top diss tracks which he called “12 Days of Diss-Mass“. He visits the station on Christmas with his manager Paul Rosenberg for an interview with DJ Whoo Kid.
In the interview, the Detroit rapper reveals his Top 12 diss track which includes old school classics like LL Cool J’s ‘Jack The Ripper’, N.W.A’s ‘Fu*k The Police’, Ice Cube’s ‘No Vaseline’, Dr. Dre’s ‘Dre Day’ and many more.
01. Tupac – “Hit ‘Em Up”
02. YZ – “Diss Fe Liar”
03. Eazy-E – “Real Muthaphuckkin Gs”
04. Common – “The Bitch In Yoo”
05. Tim Dog – “Fuck Compton”
06. Dr. Dre – “Dre Day”
07. Ice Cube – “No Vaseline”
08. N.W.A. – “Fuck the Police”
09. LL Cool J – “Jack the Ripper”
10. MC Lyte – “10% Diss”
11. Roxanne Shanté – “Roxanne’s Revenge”
12. KRS-One – “The Bridge Is Over”
Em’s playlist includes everything from legendary to obscure Rap feud songs like Ice Cube’s “No Vaseline” and Boogie Down Productions’ “The Bridge Is Over” to anti-establishment tunes like N.W.A.’s “F**k The Police.” The playlist is eclectic, with tracks from the 1980s and 1990s, tributes to female MCs, and even a few of recordings that criticise Dre.
Pac’s diss track “Hit ‘Em Up,” targeted at friend-turned-foe Notorious B.I.G., was Em’s most beloved diss track in history, and he called it a game-changer. “That, I feel like, was the first time I ever heard anybody get that personal on a diss. Most of it was personal, below-the-belt jabs, but it was done so well and the record was just so crazy,” Eminem explained.
Eminem also discussed how the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry affected him, particularly the Tupac-Biggie rap feud. “The 2pac-Biggie situation was difficult because you liked both of them,” Em explained. “You were stuck in this odd scenario where you were bumpin’ a 2Pac diss album, then you were bumpin’ something from Biggie that might have [2Pac] in it.”
Tupac not only alleged in the diss track that he slept with Biggie’s wife Faith Evans, but he also vowed to take out anyone associated with Bad Boy Records and Junior M.A.F.I.A., including Sean “Puffy” Combs and Lil’ Kim. Mobb Deep suffered as a result of “Hit ‘Em Up,” and the lyrics “made fun” of Prodigy’s sickle cell anemia. Hip-hop isn’t what it used to be.
Eminem, Whoo Kid, and Paul declare Tupac Shakur’s “Hit ‘Em Up” to be the greatest diss track of all time after spotlighting toxic bars from LL Cool J, Dr. Dre, N.W.A, and Ice Cube. Although they didn’t make the cut, honourable mentions include Del The Funky Homosapien’s “W.A.C.K MCs” and 50 Cent’s “Life’s On The Line.” Despite his extensive repertoire of recent diss tracks, this list does not include Eminem’s “Killshot” or any of today’s glorified diss music.
