Ed Sheeran says he wrote Eminem collaboration ‘River’ at Russell Crowe’s House last year.
Ed Sheeran, who’s is a big fan of Eminem, will feature on his new album ‘Revival‘ on the track called ‘River‘ . In a new interview with Billboard, he revealed that he wrote his verse last year at Russell Crowe’s house in Australia. “I Sound like such a c*ck name-dropping, but I was traveling Australia and Russell Crowe has a house, this big farm.” Says Ed, adding that Russell told him he was welcome to stay in the home, which also has a recording studio.
“I get an email from Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager, and he said, ‘We’re gonna start putting the album together, send any ideas,‘” says Sheeran, revealing that in the back of his mind, he always knew exactly what he would want to do if he ever had the opportunity to work with Eminem.
“So I used the studio at Russell’s house… played the drums on it, and then played the guitar, and then recorded the thing and wrote the chorus and did the piano on it, and then sent it off and then didn’t hear anything back. This was like March 2016.”
Sheeran has long been a fan of Eminem’s, and he stated earlier this year (17) that rapping to his third album, The Marshall Mathers LP, helped him overcome his childhood stammer. “My parents didn’t know the content of the album, and I must have been nine when it came out,” he told U.K. radio show Desert Island Discs. “And when you’re nine and someone is saying rude stuff, you wanna learn it. So I learned all of the album back-to-back and he raps at such a fast pace that my stammer would go when I rapped.”
Revival, Eminem’s ninth studio album, was released on Friday (Dec. 15), and it was eagerly anticipated. The odd collaboration between him and Ed Sheeran has stood out in the short period since its release. Sheeran tunefully sings the hook about his previous mistakes over Emile Haynie’s production, who previously produced Kanye West’s “Runaway.” In order to be given 2xPlatinum Brit Certified status, his duet with British singer Ed Sheeran must have sold over 1,2 million copies in the UK.
He revealed that it wasn’t until May 2017, while he was in Mexico when he heard from a friend of his who frequently produces for Eminem who said that he played some drums for the song, and told him that Eminem has already recorded his verses for it.
