Tyler, The Creator’s interview with Rick Rubin.
Tyler, The Creator recently spent three days in Italy with producer Rick Rubin this summer. During the time, they also say down for an interview where they talk about Tyler’s latest ‘IGOR‘ album, his asthma problem and more.
Following some debate about “staring at a mosquito” under terrible heat “in the middle of nowhere,” IGOR chatter comes front and centre here. Tyler first discussed the creation of the album’s first single, “Igor’s Theme,” recalling being in the studio with Lil Uzi Vert when the vocal melody finally came together.
That led to a digression into the value of words and lyrics, to which Tyler answered with a self-evaluation of his own listening habits. “I prefer beat first, melody second, words third,” he stated around five minutes into the conversation, citing the late Amy Winehouse as an example of an artist he admired but didn’t know what they were singing until years later.
