Royce Da 5’9″ reveals how he writes with Eminem.
Royce Da 5’9″ recently sat down with Unabashedly Reggie for a new interview where he was asked about the writing process with Eminem and a lot more things. “I always wonder how does it work because, on those you have songs where you will say something, the last thing you say and then Em will continue with the same rhyme scheme or vice versa. So are you guys in the same room. How does it work, the writing process.” asks Reginald.
“Just one of us started, instead of writing, let’s say what would we write at one time, like a 16 or 32 (Bars), instead of writing a 16 or 32 or 24, write some like 6, with no idea where it’s going and then it’s like okay this is my six right here,” says Royce. “I won’t rap it to him, I just go in the booth and let it and then it’s just sitting there. So now he basically hears it and then he has to figure out how to continue the puzzle. It just so happens when me and marshall, when we do it, we like to connect everything, we like to connect syllables, we like to really really make it technically sound. You know that’s where the fun is at, that’s where all the goodies are at, because you can’t just, if something’s there already, you can’t just come in and start your own syllable scheme, you got to continue on with what’s there and a lot of times especially rhyming with Marshall, all of the f**kin good words will be used up already, he’ll use all the good words and then just leave me there to fend for myself and sh*t, so it’s like that it’s fun doing it that way.”
“So you guys in the same studio, when one lays 6 and then okay then now it’s my turn I gotta write, you literally go back and forth also as you record it.” asks the host.
Royce continues, “Well with me and Marshall, we got a thing where we leave the room when one of us in the booth because we don’t want to hear we want to be surprised but with Slaughterhouse we all be in the same room. I and Marshall got a different kind of bond when it comes to going back and forth. It’s like we do it a whole different way.”
Royce Da 5’9″ r with Unabashedly Reggie commented on if there will be another “Bad Meets Evil” Album. “I don’t know,” Royce on another ‘Bad Meets Evil’ project. “I don’t know, Me and Marshall haven’t even really talked that much. I’ve been running around and just doing things outside of the booth. I haven’t been rapping that much. I don’t know what he’s been working on. The last time I spoke to him, he was collecting some beats or something. So I don’t really know what he’s doing. I mean if he calls me and says ‘Yo come to the lab let’s record some sh*t,’ I’m always down but we haven’t had a conversation about getting in the studio and working you know, So I don’t know.”
With a star-studded roster on board, Eminem’s sidekick, Royce Da 5’9″, received MVP accolades for his significant efforts. Not only does Royce show off his high-motor agility on “You Gon Learn,” “Yah Yah,” and “I Will,” but he also received producer positions on two tracks, including the album’s lone hit “Darkness,” for the first time in his career.
