Royce Da 5’9″ and Fat Joe talks about Eminem critiques.
Some Eminem haters attribute his success to his skin color. Fat Joe claims that his race was the biggest roadblock in his career, which he could only overcome by becoming a great rapper. While Royce da 5’9” did not want to concentrate on racial differences, Fat Joe addressed this point in his interview with him, while Royce wanted to focus on the positive impact that hip hop culture had, on its ability to encourage understanding. Royce da 5’9″ recently did an Instagram live session with Fat Joe where they talk on a lot of topics including all the critiques of Eminem and other OG rappers.
“My only problem with all the critiquing is that when they do decide to critique, they act like none of the other sh*t that you’ve done every happened. Like how they’re doing with Marshall right now. They talk about him like he ain’t stopped the world three times.” says Royce.
“These are jealous people Royce,” says Fat Joe. “Anybody talks about Eminem in any way, they’re jealous. They are pieces of sh*t, I don’t know how to explain to you, the man’s an alien. How is that, being the best friends with the great white hope, the greatest white rapper of all time, and still you’re grounded, you are very cold black. You’re best friends with the great white hope and you are pro-black. What’s that like?”
Royce da 5’9″ continues, “I think, that speaks to something very important. I think it’s a testament to hip hop being the common denominator that brings everything together. If it wasn’t for Hip-Hop, I and Em wouldn’t be best friends. Our worlds wouldn’t have crossed with each other. And I think that doesn’t get enough credit. Hip hop doesn’t get enough credit for bridging the gap between races of people. Because there will be a straight-up culture clash in any other instance, anything that we can be talking about, anything that we can disagree on. Me and Marshall, we’ve disagreed on things but there’s one common thing that we’re always going to agree on and that’s hip-hop. You put on “Tears” by 2Pac the whole world is gonna agree. We don’t know why, it just is what it is. It’s like magic. I think more emphasis should be put on that. I think Marshall’s presence in hip-hop, the reason why I defend him like I do is because his presence in hip-hop and his success in hip-hop has done more good than the latter.”
“You know this game, Royce” says Fat Joe. “Nobody would’ve gave it up to Eminem unless he was beyond exceptional. They would’ve never gave it up to Eminem, they would have never. I’m telling you, I’ve come from the blackest part of town, well, Detroit might be even blacker but what I’m saying to you is they would have never gave that boy his respect. He wouldn’t have been 10 platinum unless he wasn’t a freaking nature. Or an alien. So when you talk to me about that it makes me feel like, ‘What are we talking about?’ Y’all know y’all can’t fu*k with him. It’s the bottom line. I don’t know what to tell you, They’re Liars.”
Recently, Joe revealed that Eminem contacted him last week and pushed him to keep rapping while Sean Don was present. “That’s nuts to me, bro,” Joe told Sean. “That’s nuts. You know, Em called me last week — I don’t want to keep throwing his name around [laughs] — but the man was trying to talk me out of retirement last week. This is all I ever wanted my whole life, for one of the rap gods like to call me and tell me, ‘Yo Joe, you nice. You need to get back in there.’I really honestly believed that I had retired one million percent. When the G.O.A.T. called, I felt so honored,” said Joe, who revealed what Em told him during their phone call: “You know Joe, you’re one of the last ones left. You’re making better music now than ever. You can’t retire. You can’t leave us.”
