Pete Davidson talks about getting praised by Eminem for SNL parodies.
Pete Davidson recently sat down with Seth Meyers on his Late Night show for a new interview, where he talks about what it was like recording the Audible Original podcast Hit Job, reveals he’s starring in a movie about Joey Ramone, and his experience on the latest season of SNL, for which he received applaud from Eminem. He revealed that he called Eminem after he heard that he praised him for his SNL Skits.
“It went, I think, as good as it could go. Those skits were written by the great Dan Bulla and Steven Castillo, great SNL writers, and [Chris] Redd,” says Pete Davidson. “Eminem said a couple of nice things about me, and I, of course, heard them. I reached out. I was like, “I would just like to say thank you”. And I just hit him up and said thanks, and he was like, “Yeah, man, you really did that. When I saw Stu on the script, I was like, I don’t know how it was going to go, but after you did that, it was fire”. I was like, “Oh, thank you so much, you’re the coolest”, and then I just hung up as quickly as possible. That’s all you need. You don’t want anything more.”
This Saturday Night Live Season, Pete Davidson played Eminem’s part in parodies of “Stan” which also had a cameo from Eminem, and “Without Me” where he was joined by rapper Jack Harlow. In his recent clubhouse debut, the Detroit rapper again praised Pete Davidson and called him super talented.
Davidson appeared in the spoof, which aired on December 5, as “Stu,” a man who writes to Santa Claus several times. Davidson’s persona, like “Stan,” had blond hair, a white tank top, and an infatuation with the letters’ recipient. At the end of the spoof, Eminem appeared, unwrapping a PS5, the gift Stu had constantly requested from Santa.
During an interview on Zane Lowe’s At Home With podcast, Eminem detailed his brief cameo on Saturday Night Live and what he thinks of Davidson’s rap. He claimed that the music was provided to him ahead of time by the show’s producers, and he didn’t believe it would work at first.
“I remember they sent me the lyrics to it, and I was reading them on paper, and I was like, ‘Aw, I don’t know if this is gonna be that good.’ And then when he said it, I was like holy sh*t,” Eminem recalled. “He said it so good that he sold every single thing.”
He praised Davidson’s delivery. “His delivery for sure was really on point because it was not what I expected when I saw it.” Eminem praised the entire performance as “awesome.”
