The new Eminem interview with French Skyrock FM, talks about Trump, Revival & others.
Eminem appeared in a new interview with France’s Skyrock FM for a new interview during the promo run for his new album “Revival”. On the show, the Detroit rapper talks about his latest 9th studio album ‘Revival’, President Donald Trump, his collaboration with Beyonce ‘Walk On Water‘ and the ending of it, his influences, why he records 40-50 songs each time he’s making an album and many more. He also talks about the young generation of rappers who don’t respect the veterans and advice them to listen to legends like Rakim, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane and more.
When asked how he felt about younger generations paying homage to veterans of the industry, Marshall said he saw all sides of the argument, but that youngsters on the rise should check out Rakim and other musicians. “I don’t know, I mean, as far as the new generation I think that some of the artists coming up do and some of them probably don’t really care,” Em said. “Me, in particular, I just, I don’t know, I’ve always been such a fan of rap too. My heroes will always stay my heroes. And the people who especially, like, paved the road for someone like me, you know, I always pay homage to the ones who came before me because they made hip-hop what it is today. They are responsible.”
Eminem advised that someone “new to the game” who doesn’t yet respect the history give the music an opportunity to inspire them. “It’s one of the things that I’m able to do by feeding off that old energy and the new energy that’s out right now and able to try to intertwine those,” he explained. “So I would suggest, just for the fun of it if anything, going back and listening to, if you have maybe heard of Rakim but you don’t know his music, go listen to Rakim. Go listen to Kool G Rap… You need to listen to Big Daddy Kane, you need to listen to Masta Ace, you need to listen to tracks from Naughty by Nature.”
Following the release of Eminem’s anti-Trump freestyle, fans of the rapper who are also Trump supporters rushed to Reddit to air their displeasure. “I watched the cypher and obviously heard the ending yet I will still listen to Eminem’s music because he is incredibly talented and I can’t wait to hear what he comes out with next,” the creator of the thread, iReactionV2, wrote. “I’m just curious if there is anyone else who falls in this category or those who don’t. What are your thoughts about his cypher and his opinions.”
“I guess I fall into this category…I mean I really only ‘support’ trump because my family does. (Hell even they only voted for the guy because he’s republican, they also think he is an idiot),” one user wrote. “But at the end of the day, I don’t think it’s possible for me to give any less of a f**k about politics. I don’t listen to Eminem for politics. I let the news do that. I listen to Em for catchy beats and insane raps, as any normal human being should. If you love politics that’s fine, but let’s not have it overtake someone’s career.”
