Joe Budden criticizes Megan Thee Stallion over her album sales.
There’s one thing about Joe Budden, he is always straightforward and will say whatever is on his mind. The rapper turned podcast host often makes headlines for his harsh comments about the rap artists, and the former Slaughterhouse MC is trending again for his opinion on Megan Thee Stallion. Just days after praising Cardi B, Budden now gives his view on her “WAP” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion and said that she can’t be a “Super Star” if she can’t sell albums.
“You can not be… I am telling you, You’re not a superstar if you can’t sell an album, what the f**k are we talking about right now?” he said. “What stops her from being a superstar if we’re taking out sales? She ain’t sold sh*t. Got every brand deal in the world, but also has all the backing from mad different people. She’s got a lot going on. That’s the game today.”
Budden noted that musicians are getting more marketing and brand partnerships than ever before, but it should not be used to determine whether or not someone is a superstar.
He continues, “Griselda has a lot going on. There’s mad artists that have a lot going on, your management team as got to be a whole f**king team of people. You got to have a team of know-it-all people. Y’all just mixing rules up.”
However, Budden understands that in order to sell records, you must be strategic about when you release them. He further claims that when renowned singers like Adele release new music, it receives a lot of attention, but Megan Thee Stallion does not:
“You still got to know how to sell a f**king album. When Adele come out, you gotta move. When ni**as come out, you gotta move. When a superstar comes out, you rest of you, mortal me minion ni**as have to move. Nobody does that for Lil Nas X, nobody does that for the seven Meg Thee Stallion releases that dropped over the past two years. What are we saying?”
