JAY-Z addresses releasing new music in Gayle King’s interview.
JAY-Z is ready to make new music, but it has to be something important that means something.
The rapper will be featured in a new interview with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King, and in a teaser clip, Hov weighs in on his new music. “Is there a part of you that thinks, “It’s time for me to get back in the studio,” or you’re in no rush to do that. Are you waiting until the time is right for you?” asks King.
“Yeah I already did that [used the word ‘retirement’], I can’t do that again,” said JAY-Z. ““I’ll say I wanna make music, but it has to be something important.”
He continued, “I don’t wanna just make a bunch of tunes. That’s not gonna serve me. It won’t feed me, first of all. I have to be saying something important. It has to mean something, you know? It has to mean something to a larger society.”
“Like 4:44 for example, It was a personal story. But, the amount of vulnerability in there allowed for a lot of people to explore the space,” he added.

Apart from some features, JAY-Z hasn’t released a solo album in over six years. The rapper last dropped his thirteenth studio album “4:44” back in 2017 through Roc Nation. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with moving over 262,000 album-equivalent units in the first week, making it his 14th album to top the chart.
