J. Cole’s manager Ibrahim talks about the argument with Diddy.
Ibrahim “IB” Hamad, the co-founder of Dreamville Records and J. Cole’s manager recently sat down on the “Say Less” podcast where he details the altercation between Jermaine and Diddy over Kendrick Lamar in 2013. In his latest song “Let Go My Hand” off his number 1 album “The Off-Season“, Cole confirmed his rift with Diddy.
“My last scrap was with Puff Daddy, who would’ve thought it?” raps Cole. “I bought that ni**a album in seventh grade and played it so much / You would’ve thought my favorite rapper was Puff / Back then I ain’t know sh*t, now I know too much.”
In a tweet last year, Hamad contradicted a version of the tale in which it was said Cole intervened when Diddy attempted to dump a drink on Kendrick over a quarrel about his iconic line on Big Sean’s “Control.”
At around the 12:00 minute mark on the podcast, Ibrahim says, “The Puff story… I just remember hearing about it and laughing.” “I’m not gonna go into detail, but it’s definitely not what people are saying,” he says on people thinking if the fight was over Kendrick Lamar.

“It was definitely not like he was defending Kendrick or something,” explains Hamad. “It wasn’t like, ‘Don’t talk to Kendrick like that!’ Kendrick was there, Top was there, Jay was there, Beyonce was there. Me and Cole. You know, grown men. Got a little heated. All I remember is, me and Jay looking at each other like, ‘Oh, these n***as ‘bout to fight.’ And then just being like, ‘Oh no this is ‘bout to happen.’ I’ll leave it at that.”
“You wanna know the funny part? That was a VMA party, everyone was there. Angela Yee was literally at the table. I f**k with Yee, but she got Rumor Report and sh*t. Walking out of there I’m like, ‘Oh this about to be baaad.’ But for some reason no one had a camera out, a couple people was talking about it, but you know.” The next day, the situation had already been mostly figured out between everyone involved, Hamad added.
In 2013, J. Cole and Diddy both addressed their argument rumors on Twitter. Check it out below.
I usually don’t address rumors but I got too much respect for my bro @JColeNC. We are friends The rumors are not true. We had a great party
