Hopsin reveals his Top 5 Mcs Dead or Alive featuring Eminem, KXNG Crooked & more
Hopsin who recently released his new song & video ‘Alone With Me‘, sat down with Youtuber Stevie Knight for a new interview which released in four parts. Hopsin is a rapper who clearly values well-crafted lyrical and flow innovation. His music reflects this, particularly his most recent album, “Alone With Me,” in which he battles his demons within. Many people have been curious to hear his opinion on the Top 5 best rappers, dead or alive, due to his upfront honesty and apparent admiration for rap as a craft. Hop shared more on his own list in a recent interview mentioning a few musicians who don’t always get the credit they deserve.
He also talks about new music, working with NF on ‘Lost‘, desire to work with Adele, living in Thailand, and more. Hopsin was also asked about his Top 5 Rappers, to which he names the likes of Eminem and KXNG Crooked. He begins by stating that the list is subject to vary depending on his mood, and then goes on to enumerate the list in which he names the likes of Eminem and KXNG Crooked.
“So Eminem, Crooked I (KXNG Crooked), Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, and Ludacris,” says Hopsin. “Eminem because he is just f**kin Eminem. Crooked I crazy flow, crazy flow patterns, crazy flow cadences, till this day unpredictable. When I hear a rapper rap and I can’t predict what they f**k they’re going to say and that sh*t is crazy. If I could define Crooked I’s flow, it’s like Mayweather with the blocks with the dodge and the hits and then Tyson’s punches as well, combined together. I know a lot of people identify me with Eminem and all that he is a big part, Crooked I, I am telling you I have studied this man’s flow. And Busta Rhymes man, his style is just unmatched, craziest f**kin style in Hip-Hop period. There will never be another Busta Rhymes.”
“Missy Elliott, the goofiness in me, the funkiness in me, there’s an element of Missy Elliott I’ve carried in my career. It comes out in the hype moments. I love Missy Elliott, she does things that are creatively free, and off-the-grid, unique. She forces you to like it, all the shit she ever puts out. It’s some real funky, free, sh*t.”
“I gotta give credit to Ludacris,” he continues. “There are so many Ludacris moments in my career. I have a song called ‘I Need Help.’ Sometimes I envision myself as Ludacris when I rap, it happens at random times. Ludacris has a style, especially in the earlier stages I was growing up listening to him, he was so unique. He had that deep voice, the emphasis he put on words. It was just dope man.” He cites “What’s Your Fantasy” as one of his favorite tracks, spitting some of Luda’s dexterous bars for good measure.
