Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah crowns best storytelling rap song.
Ghostface Killah, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan MC sat down with Brian “B.Dot” Miller for a Complex Bracket session, where he picks the best storytelling song of all time. He had to narrow it down from 16 tracks, which featured songs like Biggie’s “I Got a Story to Tell”, Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story”, Wu-Tang Clan’s “Impossible”, Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day”, 2Pac’s “Brenda’s Got A Baby”, Jay-Z’s “Meet The Parents” and more.
In the top 4, Ghostface picks Eminem‘s “Stan”, Wu-Tang Clan’s “Impossible”, Kendrick Lamar‘s “Sherane A.K.A Master Splinter’s Daughter”, and Nas’ “Rewind”.
For the final two, Ghostface Killah first chooses Wu-Tang Clan’s “Impossible” over Kendrick Lamar’s “Sherane A.K.A Master Splinter’s Daughter.” “Imma go with Impossible,” he said “I mean fans might not, but I’m just looking at the song as a whole and it’s one of those songs that just inside this f**kin universe man. It’s Deep. You can make a movie out of that. Kendrick is a genius. That’s like yo he wanted them to still keep your pen going too. A lot of people don’t inspire me, but him and J. Cole, as far as the new generation, I give it to him.”
And Then he picks Nas’ “Rewind” over Eminem’s “Stan” for the final spot. “Imma have to go with Nas,” he said. “Because “Rewind” was genius. I told Nas that you’re the golden child bro. I call him the golden child all the time. I used to ask like ‘yo what’s the recipe’. Because I like to know the mindset. Stan is Stan, but Rewind is like the f**kin twilight zone, man.”
The final two featured featured “Impossible” and “Rewind”, from which Ghostface crowns Nas’ track as the winner. “I’m gonna have to go probably with “Rewind”. Skill on this record right here, it was just how the thought that he put into that,” he said.
Ghostface is renowned for his emotional delivery, complex flow technique, and stream-of-conscious narrative. In addition, Ghostface appeared alongside Raekwon on the critically acclaimed 1995 album Only Built for Cuban Linx… He shortly released his own solo debut, Ironman, in 1996. One of the top Wu-Tang solo albums is largely considered to be his second album Supreme Clientele from 2000.
