Fat Joe Praise Eminem, Explains Why He's A Rap God

Fat Joe talks Melle Mel Eminem beef and more.

Fat Joe was a recent guest on the Rap Radar podcast for a conversation with Elliott Wilson and Brian ‘B.Dot’ Miller. On the show, Joe again showed love for Eminem and called him a Rap God. “Eminem is a God. I don’t give a f–k what you think. He’s a god,” he said. “You know what I’m saying? He’s somebody who shifted the whole algorithms when he came out.”

“I remember me and Big Pun, Big Pun was the first Latino to sell 2 million records solo, we nominated for Grammy and the night before we go to the Grammys, we are waiting on line in LA in Tower Records for the f–king Eminem album. Nominated for the Grammy, me and Big Pun on line to get that motherf–king Eminem album. You tell me he ain’t a Rap God. You understand what I’m saying? So it’s like, you know, I respect everybody who put their contributions to this game.”

He then addressed the Melle Mel and Eminem feud, and revealed how he had a conversation with Mel following the Em diss track. “On 50th anniversary [of hip-hip], Melle Mel said some sh-t about Eminem. And Imma tell you something here which I hope nobody takes the wrong way but I see him in the Nick game like a day later. And Melle Mel’s my OG, He’s the guy who I look up to, I worship. I sit down and say ‘why you go after the white boy man, that 50th anniversary, this is the time to run it up when you’re trying to block your blessings.’ That’s the whole point I tried to teach him from my mistakes. I said yo bro you don’t want to diss him.”

“I owe Eminem so many favors, like I have used my relationship with this guy to oblivion. ‘Lean back’ remix, he was on the ‘Lord Above,’ he gave me the sneakers before anybody in the world.”

“You know he talked me out of retirement. I was in my mother’s house, shirt off topless. My phone rings, thank god I picked it up, it’s Eminem. He starts trying to convince me for whole hour, ‘don’t leave us’, he was almost depressed that I was leaving our era. You still got it.”

In a previous conversation, Fat Joe and Papoose defends Eminem while showing respect for Melle Mel. “I disagree with that because even though Eminem is Caucasian, you cannot front on his skillset, man. You can’t deny that skillset,” Papoose said. “No way,” responds Fat Joe. “As much as I love and worship Melle Mel, I think he’s wrong with this one,” Joe added.

“Listen, I love Melle Mel. He’s the originator of his style. He’s amazing, lyrically. I still listen to ‘The Message.’ And I know Melle Mel,” Papoose added. “I look up to him, man. He’s a legend. I could go on and on about the respect that I have for him.” “He’s probably my icon. He’s one of my Top 10,” responds Joe.

“Lyrically, dudes are still not touching [Melle Mel]. But honestly, that skillset that that boy Slim Shady got, you can’t — nah, man,” Papoose said.
