Eminem recalls a special gift from the legendary LL Cool J.
It’s known that Eminem is heavily inspired by the legendary LL Cool J and the Detroit Rapper has shown appreciation for the Queens rapper on several occasions. Now in a now-deleted clip from Behind the Music on Paramount+, Eminem talks about his admiration for LL Cool and also confirmed a theory that fans had been speculating for a long time. Eminem has never hidden his admiration for LL Cool J. In fact, on the thirtieth anniversary of “Mama Said Knock You Out,” Shady praised the renowned rapper. “It’s another way of saying that LL has been such an innovator,” Em said of the classic song. “Because for a song like that to be a smash, he was so raw on that song, for something like that to become a hit, it altered the game completely.” In Eminem’s last few public appearances, he was seen wearing a heavy gold chain and fans were thinking it looked inspired by Cool J’s classic “I’m Bad”.
The first time Eminem appeared rocking that chain was his controversial 2017, BET Freestyle where he dissed then US President Donald Trump. In the new clip of Paramount+, the Detroit Rapper reveals that the chain was a gift from LL Cool J. “LL Cool J got me these chains too. Since I was a little kid I always wanted a chain,” Em says. “I was recording with Rick Rubin and I was like, ‘Yo, can you ask LL where he got his chains from?’ So he had these made and sent them to me.”
Shady then went on to share how a LL Cool J music video inspired him to rap. “In the “I’m Bad” video, he was wearing the same chains,” he says. “When I saw that music video, I was like what the f**k. He had the whole package, the looks, the swag, the chain, like everything, you know you just wanted to be LL Cool J. He was like the first rock star of rap. I was like, ‘Yo, I want that. That is what made me actually want to rap.’”
