Eminem says Skylar Grey is an amazing talent, ranks her in the top 5 talented people.
Eminem recently went through behind-the-scenes stories of his tracks from “Music To Be Murdered By” Side B, along with Gray Rizzy on Shade 45 Radio. At the start of the interview, Eminem & the host talk about Skylar Grey’s assisted “Black Magic“.
Gray Rizzy: So we start off the project with ‘Black Black’ featuring Skylar Grey, obviously you two guys, you gentlemen and that gentlewomen over there, you guys have worked together over the years and always deliver with great projects.
However, “Black Magic” was not chosen as the opener for “Music to Be Murdered By: Side B” because it is the reason why Marshall continues to work with Skylar in general. The truth is that Eminem was telling a story and wanted to connect the two sides of the album narratively:
Eminem: She’s not a gentlewoman.
Gray Rizzy: Is she not gentle? is she harsh?
Eminem: Yeah, she’s really f**kin mean to me. Let me say this and I know I tell her this all the time but she’s like, I’ve had the privilege of working around a lot of f**kin town. It still gets me like, It’s still crazy to me sometimes when I’m working with Dre and I am looking at Dre like you’re f**kin Dr. Dre. Skylar is one of them, she’s definitely, she has to be, I don’t know how to say this Top 5 of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with but I’ve worked with so many talented people but the rate of speed that she works at. A being able to write it and B being able to sing it and to sing it that powerful, she’s an amazing talent.
Grey expressed her thanks for Slim Shady in a touching Instagram post on Saturday (December 26), thanking him for doubling her Spotify monthly listeners and launching her career.
Skylar responded to Eminem on Instagram after hearing about it: “I am extremely humbled by the words mister Mathers speaks in the recent interview he did on Shade 45. Part of me is embarrassed for reposting this because it is such a flex and that is not usually my style! But a bigger part of me wants to scream at the top of my lungs, “I DID IT!”
“Because of Black Magic, my @Spotify surpassed 4 million monthly listeners today… which is double what it was just a couple weeks ago,” she captioned a photo of herself and Mr. Marshall Mathers. “I want to take this moment to publicly express my gratitude for Marshall and everything he has done for me in the past 10 years. When he cut ‘Love The Way You Lie,’ my career was suddenly on fire. And he could have stopped there… but he didn’t.”
“Black Magic” is the 14th song we have worked on together. Over the years he has continued to include me in projects, bring me on tour, and show me tons of support. Even when other people gave up on me, he never did. Even after I parted ways with Interscope Records, he still believed in me. “To me, Eminem is beyond a collaborator, a mentor, or a friend. He is family. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU Marshall… for all of the incredible opportunities, and for always having my back… I am forever indebted to you. Love you so much homie.”
The 30-year-old performer, actual name Holly Brook Hafermann, recently spoke out about her collaboration with Eminem. “This time around I was like, ‘I want to try writing my own raps’, to see if I could do it. The first song that I wrote as a rap I sent to Eminem and I said, ‘Tell me if this s**ks. Should I ever rap again?’ and, because he’s the best person to ask in my life, he called me and was like, ‘You can rap.'”
Skylar Grey released a new single with Polo G, Mozzy, and Eminem last year. Fans had been anticipating the release of this music for weeks, and it turned out to be fantastic. Skylar Grey is a very talented actress who is exceptional at what she does. Sing. Through the hook, she skillfully expresses the song’s premise and concept, stating, “It took everything for me to get where I am.” I’m the last one standing.
Eminem acknowledged Skylar’s skill when speaking about the Gery who gave him and the world “Love the Way You Lie” and “I Need a Doctor: “Let me say this. And I know I tell this to her all the time. I’ve had the privilege of working around a lot of f**king talents. It’s still crazy to me sometimes when I’m working with Dre, and I’m looking at Dre like, “You’re f**king Dr. Dre”. The Skylar is one of.., she’s definitely…, she has to be…, I don’t know how to say that! “Top 5 of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with”? But I’ve worked with so many talented people. But the rate of speed that she works at… A) being able to write it, and b) being able to sing it and to sing it that powerful… She’s an amazing talent. She wears a lot of different hats. She’s able to approach songs from the angles that I didn’t see coming.
And also hit notes that I’m like, “What the f**k?! I didn’t expect it to go there!” And then it’s like, it was weird to me, and then the second time I hear it – I love it. She’s amazing, and her talent level is off the charts.
Grey is most known for his contributions to multiple popular tracks, including Fort Minor’s “Where’d You Go,” Diddy’s “Coming Home,” Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor,” Nicki Minaj’s “Bed of Lies,” and Macklemore’s “Glorious.” She has also written songs for a variety of well-known musicians, including Kehlani, G-Eazy, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Zedd, Nick Jonas, Céline Dion, and CeeLo Green.
In 2022, Eminem and Skylar Grey again collaborated on another song “Last One Standing” along with Polo G and Mozzy. The track was released as the official theme song for the new film “Venom: Let There Be Carnage“.
In an interview with StupidDOPE, Skylar Grey revealed she gets tired of people keep asking her about Eminem.
You’ve been a part of so many projects and so many hit songs over the years. What’s one song or project you worked on that really affected you the most?
I mean, “Love The Way You Lie”. Obviously, the one that really set my career off and also was the beginning of an amazing relationship with Eminem. He continues to work with me and take my hooks and put them on his albums and it’s really awesome.
It’s great that you guys have maintained this relationship after all this time.
I know, I’m so grateful, he’s the best.
It seems like he really trusts you with your vision and you guys just work so well together. On the other hand, do you ever get tired of people asking you about Eminem?
Yeah.
That’s got to be the go-to thing people ask you about.
Yeah, it is but you know, I’m grateful for everything he’s done for me and being able to work so closely with him. So it’s to be expected. It’s okay.
