Eminem says Pete Davidson’s SNL ‘Stan’ parody was really good.
Yesterday, Eminem did a rare interview session with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, where he shows off his cassette collection, talks about the golden age of hip-hop, among many more things. He was also asked about the recent SNL ‘Stan’ Parody which featured Pete Davidson and an appearance from himself.
Lowe said he enjoyed Mathers’ reaction, which he said was similar to that of many of the viewers at home, who were peering through their fingers at Davidson, praying he didn’t mess up his humorous take on the iconic song that has become an avatar for superfan attention. “But he kept your intensity, that’s the thing,” Lowe remarked.
“Pete Davidson did a good job man, you gotta hand it to him, he flipped that,” asks Zane Lowe.
Davidson played “Stu,” a man who writes to Santa Claus many times in the spoof, which aired on Dec. 5. Davidson’s persona, like “Stan,” had blond hair, a white tank top, and a crush on the letters’ recipient. Eminem appeared at the conclusion of the spoof, unwrapping a PlayStation 5, which Stu had constantly requested from Santa.
Em told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that he wasn’t sure it was going to land when he initially got the lyric sheet for Davidson’s sketch and read it on paper.
“Oh yeah, yeah man,” says Eminem. “I remember they sent me the lyrics to it and I was reading em on paper, and I was like, uhh I don’t know if this gonna be good. And when he said it, I was like holy f**k. He said it so good, he sold every single thing. His delivery was on point, it was not what I expected and when I saw it, I was like man this is actually really good.” Watch it below.
