Ed Sheeran Reveals A Mutual Interest with Eminem That Made Them Good Friends

Ed Sheeran details a common habit he shares with Eminem.

Ed Sheeran, the UK singer-songwriter has collaborated with Eminem a few times, and he often shares some new revelations of the time he spent with the Detroit Rapper. Ahead of the release of his upcoming album “=”, Ed Sheeran appeared on the “Late… with Jools Holland” show for a new interview. Among other things, Ed Sheeran revealed a trait that he shared with Marshall, which made them good friends.

I collect cassettes and I’ve got Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder and they are quite difficult to find,” said Sheeran. “The only person I know who collects the same is Eminem. He collects cassettes, that’s his thing. He loves collecting. He is avid at going to find them. We have started having this, it is like a very cool pen-pal thing.

Ed Sheeran continues, “I got a message the other day about an LL COOL J cassette. He said, ‘This is the cassette which made me want to start rapping.’ I sent him Van Morrison and I will send him David Gray’s White Ladder next.

Earlier this year, Eminem gave a virtual video interview to Zane Lowe, in which he showed his massive cassette collection.

Previously, Ed Sheeran also revealed that during his first meeting with Eminem, they talked about Marvels and Avengers for four hours. “It was in Detroit, and I was playing a gig in Detroit,” said Ed Sheeran. “And yeah, I arrived, and Em’s got loads of games consoles there. He loves games. I actually bought him a Nintendo 64 with GoldenEye on it as a gift. Yeah. I just stepped in there. Actually, the first time we met, we didn’t make music. I hung out there for about four hours, and we just spoke Marvel and Avengers for about four hours.

The pair worked together on the song “River” off Eminem’s recently released album Revival. Working with Eminem marks a significant turning point for Sheeran, who said in 2015 that the rapper’s music had assisted him in overcoming his childhood stammer.

Sheeran received recognition in June 2015 at the Free Voices Changing Lives Benefit Gala for the American Institute for Stuttering. Sheeran remarked during his remarks at the gathering “My Uncle Jim told my dad that Eminem was the next Bob Dylan—it’s pretty similar, it’s all just storytelling—my dad bought me The Marshall Mathers LP when I was 9 years old, not knowing what was on it. I learned every word, back to front, by the time I was 10. He raps very fast and melodically and percussively, and it helped me get rid of my stutter.”
