Birdman explains why he kissed his artists on the lips, including Lil Wayne.
Back in the days, the duo of Lil Wayne and Birdman was one of the most powerful in Hip Hop Music, but there were often talks about New Orleans artist kissing Weezy on the lips, which he did with his label’s other artists too. There were speculations about their relationship and sexuality after the infamous picture surfaced.
Now Birdman recently sat down with Big Facts Podcast for a new interview. On the show, he talked about various topics, including Cash Money Records history, rumors, and misconceptions, VERZUZ battles, not receiving his proper credit, his favorite Atlanta artist, his past issues with Charlamagne Tha God, and more. He also clears why he used to kiss Lil Wayne on the lips.
“I always looked at Wayne as my son and I always looked at it like, ’cause I was in the streets, and I thought this might be the last time he ever see me,” said Birdman. “‘Cause I was living like that. That’s what that sh*t really started from ’cause I thought that every night I leave, I might not ever come back. And I always today look at Wayne as my child. I was his father when he didn’t have a father since he was nine years old. And I love him like my own and I’d give my life for him and I’d take a life for him.” “I knew he was special, I let him go because I had Mannie Fresh. Kanye came to me as a producer, and I wasn’t ever going to disrespect Mannie Fresh because I started with Fresh. It was either gonna be Fresh or ‘Ye, so I had to let ‘Ye go. He went to Roc-A-Fella, I flew him to Roc-A-Fella. We always kept a bond, but he was living with me at my house.”

Back in 2009, Tim Westwood asked Birdman about the infamous smooch. “That’s my son,” he said. “If he was right here, I’d kiss him again. I kiss my daughter. I kiss my other son. If you got a child, you understand. I’ll kill for him, ride for him, and die for him.”
Lil Wayne filed a $51 million lawsuit against Cash Money in 2015 after Wayne’s long-awaited fifth album, “Tha Carter V,” was twice delayed.
The next year, Lil Wayne informed Rolling Stone that he and Birdman were no longer speaking.
According to Billboard, the case was subsequently resolved for an unknown sum in 2018, and Birdman publicly apologised to the rapper during the annual Lil Weezyana Fest. “I knew this day was going to come, but I didn’t know when it was going to come,” Birdman told the New Orleans crowd, according to Billboard. “I’m sorry.”
Lil Wayne’s only eligible opponent in Verzuz combat, according to Birdman, is Lil Wayne himself. “Himself, Wayne versus Tunechi. He got too much sh*t going on, he doesn’t need to touch that. Come on, brother — this is Tunechi,” “This n***a had 100 singles in one year. He passed [Elvis Presley] in one year. 100 songs on Billboard, so I don’t think an individual could top that. I’m talking about 100 hit songs. The work Wayne put into it, I wouldn’t even play with that s**t.” he said in the interview with Big Facts.
During the annual Lil Weezyana Fest in 2018, Wayne and Birdman were able to reach a deal for an undisclosed sum, and Birdman apologized to the public. Birdman stated he gave Lil Wayne $50 million to put an end to their dispute during the interview. Additionally, according to the CEO of Cash Money, he paid $1.4 billion to Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Drake.
