Benzino recalls declining Five-Mic “The Source” review for Eminem’s album.
Benzino once again recalled his beef with Eminem in the early 2000s and revealed that he once snubbed a Five-Mic review for an album from the Detroit rapper. Benzino made an appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, where he recalled declining a five-star review for Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” album.
“I was the top of my muthaf–kin’ food chain,” he said. “Even [Russell Simmons], Lyor [Cohen], all these ni–as, Steve [Stoute] and everybody, they all had to answer to somebody.
“I was the top of a damn near $75 million company when ni–as wasn’t getting money like that. I got that big money first and I was the top of that.”
He continued, “So when the Eminem thing [The Eminem Show] came through The Source, at this point it’s getting disrespectful. So how the f–k am I gonna have this ni–a in my magazine? Would you?
“You’re not gonna put nobody in your magazine to give this ni–a five mics after this ni–as being disrespectful. You wouldn’t do it, man. Nobody would.”
The Eminem Show album, was released in 2002 through Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records, and Interscope Records. It stands as one of the pinnacle achievements in Eminem’s career and features highly successful singles like “Without Me,” “Superman,” “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” and “Sing for the Moment.”
The project garnered significant critical acclaim and achieved commercial success. In fact, it was the best-selling album of 2002 in the United States with over 7.6 million copies sold. Additionally, it reached number one on charts in 19 countries including the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
Recognition for its excellence came at the 2003 Grammys when it won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Its remarkable achievement continued as it received Diamond certification on March 7th, 2011. This esteemed honour signifies sales of over ten million units in the US alone, making it Eminem’s second album to attain this distinction after his third studio album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP.’
Benzino had been in a feud with Eminem for the past two decades, but last year revealed that the beef is over. “To all Eminem fans & Stans all over the world, the beef is officially over. I’m letting y’all know I have no hate towards any of his fans & recognize his contributions to Hip Hop. He truly is apart of the culture &1 of the best to rock the mic regardless of his color.”
