Alicia Keys Looks Back On Time When A Teen J. Cole Tried To Win Her Over

Alicia Keys talks about J. Cole trying to woo her in his younger days.

It’s well known that J. Cole had been a great admirer for Alicia Keys, and also had a “super-duper crush” on “As I Am” singer in his younger days. “There was a few of these in my life. Mariah Carey was one when I was real young. Alicia Keys when I was a little older. I felt like I had a chance,” he told Fat Joe in 2013.

J. Cole was so determined to meet the Alicia Keys musician that he attended one of her performances and deliberately positioned himself so that he might catch her notice after her performance. Unfortunately, J. Cole was not successful, and history has shown that the two artists eventually crossed paths far later in their lives.

Alicia Keys replied to the humorous story about her curving a youthful J. Cole during a recent interview for Complex’s 360 with Speedy Morman, and she claims she has no knowledge of J. Cole’s story.

Now for the promo run for her new album “Keys“, the 15-time Grammy Award-winner sat down with Complex’s 360 for an interview with Speedy Morman. The host asked Alicia Keys about the time when a 14-year-old J. Cole tried to win her over when she was 19. “[J. Cole] has this very crazy story,” Speedy Morman says, introducing the story. “He was 14 and you were 19, at the time, and you were both in Texas. He went to a show, and he had plans for you guys to cross paths, and he was gonna give you a look [that would] make you come up to him. And it didn’t happen that way. Did you ever hear that story?”

“I heard the story, and I think the story is amazing,” responds Alicia. “Definitely can’t say that I remember the look I don’t know if the look made it to me. He might have had the look, but I might not have been there. I might have been too far to see the look. I don’t remember it, but he clearly remembers it, and it’s a good vibe, you know, because it’s really cute because everybody has a story like that. You know that person that they just ‘if I could just get in front of them they would feel me I know it.'”

The two recently linked up in the studio and recorded some new collaborations, but they didn’t make it to Alicia Keys’ new studio album “Keys”.

The two eventually went into the studio to create a song collaboration, but it was kept off the tracklist of Alicia Keys’ new album, Keys, which is slated to be released on Friday (December 3). “That’s the first time we connected,” she said. “He came through, he happened to be in the same place. We were talking, we were conversating, building. And then we just kinda happened to fall on some vibes or some things or some flows.”
