G-Eazy reacts to Eminem comparison from Larry King.
Larry King got down with G-Eazy to chat about his own brand, and the talk show host asked him about comparisons to Eminem. Bay Area MC G-Eazy sat down with Larry King on his show Larry King Now for an exclusive interview. On the show Larry King asked him if he likes being compared to Detroit Rapper Eminem, On which G-Eazy responds, “I don’t think anybody likes being compared to anybody, That’s beyond an honor, Eminem is the greatest to ever do it, to be even put in a sentence.”
G-Eazy drew the comparison himself on the track “Calm Yourself,” from his latest album “Where It’s Dark Out” when he raps, “F**k it, I’m the coldest white rapper in the game / Since the one with the bleached hair,” referring to Eminem’s bleached hair.
G-Eazy continues and talked about white rappers like Eminem and himself in a culture that is predominantly Black, “I don’t think anybody likes to be put in a box of any kind,” G-Eazy says.”But the world needs boxes. The world needs categories. It just comes with the territory.”
Later the host asked him what sets him apart from other MCs on which G-Eazy talks about how rappers and listeners connect. “It’s my story, You take a record like ‘Everything will be ok,’ I’ve experienced that. I went through that,” G-Eazy says, “So it;s like I can only tell my story. To use music as a place, as an outlet to express yourself, to go there is to let other people listening feel that too and identify with the music. I think that’s the power of it. As an artist, it’s your outlet, wheather that’s pain, wheather that;s your dreams, wheather that’s your nightmares, wheather that’s your triumphs or whatever, that’s your outlet. Then for the listener, it’s to connect with that artist in that story.”
