When Eminem almost dissed Lil Wayne and Kanye West.
In an interview with Big Boy of Power 106 in LA, Eminem talks about the time when he almost took aim on Lil Wayne and Kanye West in a record of Recovery. Eminem went into more detail and speaks about the track “Talking To Myself” of Recovery and about his feeling at the time he made that Record. “When I made the record “Talkin’ 2 Myself” what I was basically talking about [was] with the time period that I was away,” Em said. “I was kind of watching what was going on in the game and it was like anything that was hot at that moment or anybody who was really killing shit at that moment I felt like, I felt so bad about myself and the music that I was creating, that I felt like I started to turn into a hater.”
Eminem also said that he wanted to aim at them because they happened to be the biggest Rapper of that time, Em said “It wasn’t just, you know, singling Kanye and Wayne out at that time period, I mean they were the one’s who were the killing it the most to me, And it hurt. I’d pop the CD in and be like, ‘Fuck man, I’m not doing this no more.’ I felt like I came very close to like, for me it would have been career suicide because I felt like, ‘I should make a song just dissing everybody who’s doing in it the game right now’.”
Marshall also said that he wasn’t happy when he was getting that feeling, Em explains “I just had the thoughts, just walking around the studio,” Em said. “I think that deep down I just wasn’t happy with myself, man. I knew that there were some really dark moments in there. When I think about how my thought process was when I was high a lot, it wasn’t good, man, and it certainly wasn’t me ‘cause I’m not even that kind of person.”
Later in the song, Em alleges that the attention given to Wayne and Kanye while he was abroad motivated the planned attack. But he drew away when he realized that in his current state, he wouldn’t have been much of a threat.
Recovery is set to be released on June 22nd, however, the project was leaked on Tuesday (June 8). In the past, Interscope Records, the rapper’s label, has pushed the album’s release date forward to compensate for leaks. The label had not yet stated whether Recovery’s release date would be pushed back as of press time.
