Busta Rhymes is the rapper most likely to break a windshield by slamming his head against it. The “Break Your Neck” MC is definitely a fan of the violent headbang, revealing in a new interview that the dancing technique once obliterated Wyclef Jean’s tour bus’ whole windshield. Obviously, it was Eminem’s Slim Shady album that sparked this event. Busta Rhymes has one of hip hop’s most recognized voices. He burst into the screen in A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario” video, instantly establishing his larger-than-life presence with a memorable verse.
Busta’s fondness for Eminem dates back to the late 1990s, when he was on the Smokin’ Grooves tour and first heard Eminem’s Slim Shady EP. Busta almost died from hearing Em’s flow before the two ever met.
On That Busta Rhymes Tells that “We were on the Smokin’ Grooves tour in the back of one of the venues. Wyclef has this big-a*s studio on his bus so we always wanted to go hang out and he was playing the Slim Shady LP. Before I could actually get on the bus, I was standing on the three little steps that you walk up to get on to the bus and I was nodding my head so f**king hard, going crazy, that I hit my head on the windshield and broke the whole f**kin’ windshield of Wyclef’s bus. It f**ked the whole glass up.”
“The f**king sh*t that I was hearing from him created an animal instinct reaction,” added the rapper. “There was no thought that went into the way I reacted; it was just so powerfully compelling that I just bugged out. And there are very few moments like that, for me, that made me feel like that. When I first heard him, I didn’t know if he was white or black or where he came from. All I knew is what he was making me feel like made me almost push my head through a windshield.”
The Leaders of the New School’s first member was Busta Rhymes. Later, he established the record label Conglomerate (formerly Flipmode Entertainment) and the production company The Conglomerate (formerly Flipmode Squad). Busta Rhymes inked a deal with Cash Money Records in November 2011. Busta Rhymes stated on July 23, 2014, that he had left Cash Money Records owing to creative disputes and was no longer signed to Republic Records. He has eleven studio albums to his credit, the first of which being the platinum-selling The Coming in 1996.
Busta Rhymes has been hinting at a new album for a while now, focusing on his solo work. While he hasn’t revealed the title, there is speculation that it might be a follow-up to his 1998 album “Extinction Level Event.”
“It’s definitely coming this year,” he says. “9th Wonder has heard the album in its entirety several times. Just Blaze, Rapsody and they have all been very vocal about it through the social media platforms, and I am super grateful to them for cosigning, their endorsements, the whole anticipation that they’ve been creating.
“They’re all legends. They’re all icons in the game and you know, when they speak, people listen. It’s something I’ve never really had happen in this dynamic where word-of-mouth and the fellow comrade endorsement publicly in this dynamic has happened at this magnitude.”
