Smiley drops a new song “Over The Top” with Drake.
On the new track “Over the Top,” Champagne Papi collaborates with the rising Toronto rap artist Smiley. Smiley shows off his one-of-a-kind flow on the catchy tune, which was produced by Tay Keith, while the OVO leader takes aim at the competition on his confident verse. Drake is one of the musicians who always help other up-and-coming artists and once again, the Toronto rap star blessed his fellow city rapper Smiley. Smiley releases a brand new single called “Over The Top“, which features Drake who delivers a verse as well as chorus.
“I wanna bury these ni**as like twenty feet down
So no one can find them again
It’s gotta be scary to witness me
carry these ni**as around in both of my hands
They stay inviting me over, they say they got bi**hes
I get there and it’s just them,” raps Drake in his verse.
Drake has previously referred to Smiley as an “inspiration,” and a day after learning that he was one of the most nominated musicians for the 2019 Grammys, he posted a video of himself shirtless in the pool, drinking a drink and chilling out to the intro track from Smiley’s A Tape to Remember.
In a recent interview with Complex Canada, Smiley talks about how he got the attention of Drizzy. “A long time ago, it was 2014 or something like that. He heard those songs and I guess he paid close attention,” Smiley said. “And then when I took a break and I came back, I dropped this one song called ‘Hit.’”
That was the first time I’d ever seen that Drake knew who I was or anything; one of his boys posted my song, and he commented under it and said, ‘Smiley = G.O.A.T.’ And then that’s when I was like, ‘Oh f**k, this guy knows who I am and sh*t.’ So then, probably a couple of days later, he followed me on Insta.”
