It’s not that “The Hills” isn’t a fantastic song worthy of a rap legend’s remix — after all, it’s the country’s No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Eminem, on the other hand, hardly ever does remixes. But, as Marshall put it on Twitter, Abel’s slam was “too good to pass up.” Slim Shady has rarely stepped on other artists’ official remixes to add his own lyrically bizarre and astonishing touch during his long career on the mic. This does not include his freestyle over other people’s beats, such as on “Despicable,” when he rapped over Drake’s “Over” and Lloyd Banks and Juelz Santana’s “Beamer, Benz, or Bentley,” or remixes of his own songs.
In the United States, “The Hills” debuted at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 13, 2015, becoming the week’s highest debut. Its first-week digital download sales of 109,000 copies and 5.2 million domestic streams propelled its debut, which was boosted by the same premiere of its music video on the single’s release day.
