Rod Wave Releases New Song & Video Cold December

Rod Wave shares a new song “Cold December”.

Rod Wave makes his return to the music scene as he releases his first song of 2022 which is titled “Cold December”. The track is produced by TnTXD, ThatBossEvan, ProducedbyJb & Luke Walker, and was teased by Rod Wave on multiple occasions. It follows up Florida rapper’s previous offering “By Your Side” that dropped in November.

“Selfish people often mistake selfishness / for strength. It takes no talent, no / intelligence, no self-control, and no effort / to sacrifice other people for your ego,” states at the start of the music video.

Rod sings on his own love experiences over a nice sample of Hank Williams Jr.’s “OD’d in December” on the trap-laced ballad. And the film’s visual aspect, directed by longtime Rod partner Reel Goats, adds to the mix, with Rod appearing sad as he gets flashbacks while sitting alone in the cold.

It’s going to be a tremendous year for the artist, who is coming off a career-changing year in 2021, with his most recent studio album SoulFly topping the Billboard 200. With “By Your Side” towards the end of the year, he became his 20th Billboard Hot 100 entry.

The Florida-born singer explained to followers on his Instagram Live that he only released “Cold December” in order to fulfil his $15 million contract with Alamo Records and Sony Music Entertainment. “I was in a $15 million deal contract that I was trying to close on and they was like, ‘They need that song,’” he explained of the situation. “That’s the only reason why I dropped that sh*t. But I wasn’t never gon’ drop that sh*t if you want to be technical.”

It begins with a heavy-handed remark on the ego that is about as profound as any slogan on a Walmart mug. The video then switches to Rod in Duck Dynasty cargo trousers cutting wood, as though he’s living off the land like the gals on Yellowjackets. In the last scene of Call Me By Your Name, he starts a fireplace with the logs and then goes full Chalamet, reflecting on a prior love while the wood crackles and burns. Over a chipmunk sample of Hank Williams, Jr.’s gloomy country classic “O.D.’d in Denver,” his mournful wails are placed. Yes, it is as dramatic as it appears.

Rod said in December that fans were “twiddling” with a music he had previously previewed, provisionally named “Nirvana,” which he claims some mistook for a “suicide message.”
