Macklemore shares new track “Heroes” with DJ Premier.
Macklemore returns to the music scene as he teams up with DJ Premier for his brand new song titled “Heroes”. Premier provides the chorus to the song, while it is produced by Budo. This is the first offering off Macklemore’s third solo studio album “Ben”, a follow-up to 2017’s “Gemini“.
“You don’t want it with this, put the truck in his ribs / We don’t fight fair, f**k that, we jump in, get our licks / Reds and white splash, do the dash, hop the fence / Wake up, smoke a bunt, hit the park and do it again, for my heroes,” he raps.
Macklemore discussed “Heroes” in a social media post he shared with his followers shortly after the song’s debut. “DJ Premier’s production defined my childhood,” he wrote in part. “He was the soundtrack to my adolescence. I used to STUDY his drums. The way he chopped samples. The way his scratches had a personality to them, a voice. By the time the first snare hits, you can usually tell it’s a Preemo beat. I can still remember freestyling to the Come Clean instrumental for hours.
“[…] I love this s###. I love this era. And I miss it. I make a lot of rap songs that will probably never see the light of day. The specific sound that I’ve been reminiscing on isn’t contemporary anymore. It isn’t trending on TikTok. And chances are this is the least streamed song on my album.”
