Tory Lanez shares his new album “Alone At Prom”.
After a rollout for the past few weeks, Tory Lanez has finally released his brand new album “Alone At Prom”. It is the Canadian artist’s fourth project of the year, after “Playboy“, “We Outside” and the NFT exclusive album “When It’s Dark”. Tory Lanez had been promoting the album through his 80s inspired persona Ashton Rain.
The record focuses on a character named Ashton Rain, whom we follow via 80’s era music on his path of ups and downs with love and grief. Tory is now touring in the United Kingdom, and he just sold out a location with Chris Brown as support. “Ashton Rain is a mixture of Hall & Oates, Toto, Michael Jackson, Rick James and more. The music was so retro and nostalgic that the character had to be created and authenticated through film, picture and music video. Ashton Rain is today’s last hope of getting a full catalogue now and later of pure pop, R&B, alternative and 80’s rock music and I’m excited for everyone to hear what I’ve poured my passion into with the Alone At Prom album.”
The album was initially announced on the singer’s Instagram account in late 2020 when he disclosed that he was working on an “80s capsule” and shared pieces of the project throughout 2020 and 2021. In September 2021, the title and formal release date of Alone at Prom were announced. Lanez acknowledged Hall & Oates, Toto, Michael Jackson, and Rick James as musical influences for the production.
The full project contains 11 tracks, including previously released singles “Lady of Namek” and “87 Stingray“. The album contains only two guest features from Tee on “Pink Dolphin Sunset” and Nyce on “Hurt From Mercury”.
On songs like “Ballad Of A Badman” and “Last Kiss Of Nebulon,” Lanez further asserts his incomparable talent as he croons beautifully using his elevated vocals and seductive auto-tune, sounding like a Michael Jackson-The Weeknd hybrid. Alone At Prom, which has 11 songs in all, undoubtedly packs a punch in today’s musical landscape because to its existence between feverish R&B and dreamy 80s-pop.
The Canadian rapper and singer cleansed his Instagram and tweeted (and posted on his IG) about his new album, which will be released on December 1st and will be 80s themed. Tory released a remix of Capella Grey’s viral song “Gyalis” this past weekend, which you can listen to here.
Tory, who is in Dubai for a club performance, has recently finished a run of gigs in the United Kingdom, where he sang some of his best singles. The 29-year-old will return to the United States for a preliminary hearing in his assault charge with Megan Thee Stallion on December 14.
