Tyler, The Creator drops his new album IGOR feat Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert & others.
After giving us the EP inspired by the ‘The Grinch‘ late last year, Tyler, The Creator makes returns to the music scene as he drops his new album IGOR which he announced earlier this month.
Tyler’s sixth studio album contains 12 tracks with guest appearances from Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, Pharrell, and more.
Tyler had left a note for IGOR, which read: “IGOR. THIS IS NOT BASTARD. THIS IS NOT GOBLIN. THIS IS NOT WOLF. THIS IS NOT CHERRY BOMB. THIS IS NOT FLOWER BOY. THIS IS IGOR.” It’s the rapper-sixth producer’s full-length album (counting his 2009 mixtape BASTARD) and the follow-up to Flower Boy, which was probably his best-received to date and signalled a new aesthetic transition for him toward the sunny and spontaneous. So far, we don’t have much information about what IGOR will sound like; the news was made via Twitter, and two album covers were released alongside it. According to some, the first is influenced by Grace Jones, while the second, designed by Lewis Rossignol, is significantly more expressionistic.
Tyler asserted that Igor should be viewed as a pop album despite taking home the Best Rap Album Grammy at the 2020 Grammy Awards. He also slammed the Grammys for selecting him for the Rap and Urban categories, calling it racially driven and a “backhanded compliment.”
With 165,000 album-equivalent units sold, Igor debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, with 74,000 pure album sales. Tyler’s first number-one album in the United States.
