“Space Jam: A New Legacy” official soundtrack in here.
Today, we will finally get to see the new animated sports comedy film “Space Jam: A New Legacy“, a sequel to the 1996 hit. It will star LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Khris David, Jeff Bergman, and more. But before that, the official star-studded soundtrack of the movie has been released.
When director Malcolm D. Lee thinks of the original Space Jam’s soundtrack, he envisions a cultural watershed moment. He explains, “It came at a time when soundtracks for movies were just exploding, particularly when it came to African-American music — hip-hop and R&B,” he says. “So I would say that we had a high bar to reach.”
The Soundtrack contains 16 tracks with original music from Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, John Legend, Chance The Rapper, Kash Doll, Lil Wayne, Saweetie, G-Eazy, Joyner Lucas, Cordae, SZA, and more.
The Malcolm D. Lee-directed film will be released through WB Pictures in the US on July 16, both in Theaters and on HBO Max.
Big Freedia was ecstatic to be a part of a children’s film’s soundtrack, providing a level of representation that the original film’s music lacked. “To represent for the LGBTQ community and to have my voice on it is definitely letting people know that they’re opening things up to all walks of life,” Freedia says. “I’m really honored to be a part of it and to represent my community.”
To create such a big soundtrack, Warner Brothers and Republic Records had to coordinate filmmakers, musicians, and producers — all while dealing with a global pandemic. “We had this kickoff meeting in February of 2020, and we had it in person, and we had no idea that it would be our first and last actual work gathering in person,” Sano says. “We were having to pivot and figure out how.”
