Run The Jewels drops their new album ‘Run The Jewels 4’ feat 2 Chainz, Pharell Williams & others.
Run The Jewels, the duo of Killer Mike and EL-P are back with their new project as they drop the new album called ‘Run The Jewels 4‘. It’s a long-awaited follow-up to their 2016’s ‘Run The Jewels 3‘.
On June 5, the long-awaited album will be released. El-P tweeted about the new plan, tying it to the high-profile death of Minneapolis citizen George Floyd this week. After the killing of George Floyd aroused outcry in the African-American community, Killer Mike gave an emotional speech last week. The MC yelled as he urged Atlanta people to think of methods to “plot, plan, strategize, organize, and mobilize” for major change instead of destroying their city.
The project contains 11 tracks with guest appearances from Greg Nice, DJ Premier, 2 Chainz, Pharrell Williams, and more. In April, they released the video for ‘Ooh LA LA‘.
RTJ4 does not expressly emphasize protest music as RTJ3 did, yet the moments when the album is most blatantly in active revolt are still the moments when it feels most necessary. The direct commentary of “walking in the snow” and “pulling the pin,” with Mavis Staples seeming like she’s from another period, brings out the best in the two rhymers. All of the surveying seems to come to a head in “a few words for the firing squad (radiation),” as both Mike and El recite personal reflections from within a fading kingdom. Their rage is fueled by their affection for those closest to them and the losses they’ve suffered as a result of the existing system.
