Lil Nas X drops his new project 7 EP feat Cardi B.
After giving us a huge hit ‘Old Town Road‘, Lil Nas X decided to capitalize on the success of the record as he drops his new project called EP 7.
Lil Nas X, the 20-year-old rapper who initially made waves in March when his TikTok #YeeHawChallenge tune “Old Town Road” went viral and pushed him onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart, has had quite the year.
As EW previously reported, the EP incorporates a variety of genres, from country to trap to pop-punk, and even includes some slow songs among its explosive bops. Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails and Travis Barker of Blink-182 have writing credits on the new album, while the single “Panini” interpolates elements of Nirvana’s “In Bloom.” On Thursday, X released “Panini,” the first single from his upcoming EP.
With teaser videos, excerpts, and fake-out memes, the Atlanta rapper has been quietly building interest on social media. 7 is the follow-up to his 2018 self-released NASARATI project. The EP’s success will decide if X, who was recently signed to Columbia Records, can turn the momentum generated by “Old Town Road” into a career, especially one that continues to blur the lines between country and hip-hop.
7 got six Grammy Award nominations, including one for Album of the Year, despite the reviewers’ mixed reviews. It is the quickest nomination in Grammy Award history, clocking in just under 19 minutes.
