Kehlani drops “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t” album feat Tory Lanez, Jhene Aiko & others.
Kehlani continues releasing new material as she releases her new project called ‘It Was Good Until It Wasn’t‘. The album contains 15 tracks with guest appearances from Tory Lanez, Jhene Aiko, James Blake, and more. She already released visuals for ‘Toxic‘ and ‘F&MU‘.
Since the release of her famous mixtape, You Should Be Here (2015), the California-bred singer has had quite the ride. Her followers (including me) have watched her grow up as she dealt with media attention, failed relationships, and recently began her parenthood journey.
Kehlani has matured into a grownup on “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t”. The project’s tone has grown, and it’s some of her best work to date. As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, the singer-songwriter highlights her assets. Her strengths include releasing sympathetic love ballads and heartbreak songs. Her vocals are prominent throughout the album, as they have been on previous releases. “Lexii’s Outro” is the final track on the album. Lexii Alijai, a late rapper, is honored in this song. The two pals initially worked on Kehlani’s 2015 album, You Should Be Here, on the song “Jealous.” Alijai died in January following an overdose that was accidental.
Kehlani released “Toxic,” the project’s first promotional song, on March 12, 2020. The song explores the tumultuous dynamics of a bad relationship. The song charted at 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Everybody Business,” the album’s second promotional song, was released on April 16. As the project’s third promotional single, “F&MU” was released on April 30 alongside the album’s pre-order. All of the tracks have “Quarantine Style” images and music videos.
