It was a roller coaster for the celebrity that cancelled his Saint Paulo tour 2016 after hospitalization and a mental failure. Then, after a roughly year-long sabbatical, he returned to Twitter several weeks ago by sparking lots of attention (“if you get up first don’t hop immediately on the phone or internet”), before joining the internet and telling TMZ that slavery seemed like an “option.”
Ye debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 list with 208,000 album-equivalent units, 85,000 of which were pure album sales, making it the fifth-largest weekly album sales for 2018 at the time in terms of units, and concurrently atop the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. West tied Eminem’s still current streak from 2000 to 2018 and English band the Beatles’ streak from 1965–1968 as one of just three performers to collect eight consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200 with the album.
