Listen to the “Judas and the Black Messiah” Soundtrack.
After an announcement a few days ago, the full Soundtrack to the upcoming “Judas and the Black Messiah” is here. The film is on the story of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton and it stars Daniel Kaluuya & LaKeith. The star-studded project contains 22 tracks with guest appearances from Nas, Jay-Z, Nipsey Hussle, Rakim, BJ The Chicago Kid, ASAP Rocky, Polo G, JID, G Herbo, Lil Durk, and more.
The soundtrack for Judas and the Black Messiah is as intense and emotional as its historical characters. The majority of the songs were recorded by Black musicians during the 1960s when the movie was set. The first song played in the film is Rahsaan Roland Kirk’s instrumental track “The Inflated Tear,” which sets the tone for the Civil Rights Era in our not-too-distant past. Over the credits, H.E.R.’s original song “Fight For You” plays.
The soundtrack’s numerous and multifaceted moments carry it forward. H.E.R.’s “Fight For You” was chosen as the soundtrack’s first single, and rightly so. As she sings of emancipation and the ongoing battle against tyranny, the 23-year-old R&B vocalist gives one of the most riveting vocal performances of her career. The song (co-produced by D’Mile) has since been nominated for a Golden Globe and is on the shortlist for the 2021 Academy Awards.
There are doo-wop, jazz, and R&B singles from well-known Black musicians sprinkled throughout the film. After watching Hampton’s relationship with William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield) develop on screen, everyone else will want to learn more about these artists.
