J.I.D drops new project ‘DiCaprio 2’ feat Joey Badass, Method & others.
The Dreamville artist J.I.D returns with some new music as he drops his new project ‘DiCaprio 2‘, a sequel to his mixtape which was released about four years ago. The project contains 14 tracks with guest appearances from J. Cole, ASAP Ferg, 6LACK, Ella Mai, Joey Badass, Method Man, and more.
The majority of the album was created by Christo, however other artists such as Mac Miller, Kenny Beats, and WondaGurl also contributed. DiCaprio 2 is headlined by “151 Rum” and the J. Cole collaboration “Off Deez,”. The complex but promising DiCaprio was abandoned by J.I.D in 2015. J.I.D. rapped in a faux-Kendrick Lamar shriek over footage from Leonardo’s films on the bar-heavy mixtape (again, it’s difficult to overestimate the project’s density). His manager zooms us in on the couch and calls it the rapper’s Catch Me If You Can. Gangs of New York is the title of J.I.D’s sequel. The audacity of the declaration contrasts with a palpable feeling of anxiety. “This project isn’t like the nevrr narrative or anything u heard from me b4 it isn’t my gkmc [Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City] or whatever else your are expecting it to be,” he cautioned his followers on Instagram before releasing the intensely cinematic first song, “151 Rum.”
Last week, the rapper took to Twitter to dispel any suspicions that his album’s release date will be pushed back. He verified that he isn’t in this company for the money. “I’m not playing the game they want me to play, we doing this sh*t our way and letting the people have the music how we see fit,” J.I.D. tweeted.
