G Herbo drops his new album ‘PTSD’ feat Lil Durk, Juice WRLD & others.
After revealing the official tracklist a week ago, G Herbo has released his brand new album ‘PTSD‘. The project contains 14 tracks with guest appearances from A Boogie wit da Hoodie, BJ The Chicago Kid, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Chance The Rapper, Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert, Jacquees, and more.
G Herbo (formerly known as “Lil Herb”) first appeared on the scene in 2012, amid the height of Chicago’s drill music explosion. Herbo’s debut mixtape, Welcome to Fazoland, was the first of a series of mixtapes honoring a close friend who died in a shooting. Herb drew you into his horrific reality with songs like “At The Light.” “I know n**as out for my life, gotta look to my left and right/I’ll be damned if I get left at the light, summers, I remember those nights,” says the singer. PTSD is a continuation of the themes that have characterized his work throughout his career.
“It’s important for me to really talk about my situation, my life, and how [PTSD] affected me. And hopefully it can help other people.”
One of Herbo’s younger sisters suffered the same catastrophe he’s been writing about just a day after the release of ‘PTSD.’ He explains, “One of my younger sisters suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder,” he says. “One of her best friends was shot multiple times in a grocery store or a corner store literally the day after I dropped my project. So it’s a non-ending cycle rather you’re a male or female.”
“It’s me spreading awareness to mental health, to PTSD,” the Chicago rapper told Complex about the album. “I’m a product of poverty-stricken neighborhoods, like I come from one of the worst neighborhoods in Chicago … We don’t really understand, you know. And I was one of those guys. I was clinically diagnosed with PTSD through my therapist, and until I was aware of these situations, it was just normal.”
PTSD earned 59,000 album-equivalent units (including 4,000 copies as pure album sales) in its first week and debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard 200. The album also opened at numbers four and three, respectively, on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and US Top Rap Albums charts. Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the album gold status for overall sales and album-equivalent units that exceeded 500,000 in the US.
