Freddie Gibbs & Madlib drop their new project ‘Bandana’ feat Killer Mike, Pusha T & others.
After giving us a few songs in the past weeks, the duo of Freddie Gibbs and Madlib has released their joint album ‘Bandana‘. The 15 track project contains guest appearances from Pusha T, Killer Mike, Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, and more.
Madlib has done it again on Bandana, his second album with Gary, Indiana’s Freddie Gibbs. Piata, the duo’s debut album, was a bit of an enigma when it was released in 2014. Gibbs was a somewhat underground, no-nonsense street rapper at the time, whereas Madlib was a producer extraordinaire who was more likely to be found in the Blue Note collection than the trap. Regardless, they crafted a modern classic, an album that appealed to both fans of both performers as well as others who were unfamiliar with both.
Bandana arrived with high hopes. Fans questioned whether the pair could keep up the standard without the bolt from the blue energy. The solution was obvious as soon as the first glimpses of Bandana appeared on the internet. The project was originally scheduled for release earlier this year, but it was delayed due to sample clearance concerns, and suspicions persist that some fans received uncleared vinyl copies by mistake. The album had already gained cult status by the time it was released last Friday.
Gibbs released two new projects in 2018: Fetti, a Curren$y and Alchemist collaboration, and Freddie, a solo tape. Madlib’s 2015 collaboration with M.E.D. and Blu, Bad Neighbor, came after Piata. He hinted last year that he and Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey were working on a new Black Star album (Mos Def).
With 18,000 extended play units sold in its first week, Bandana debuted at 21 on the US Billboard 200 and position 13 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
