Fabolous drops ‘Summertime Shootout 3: Coldest Summer Ever’ project feat Lil Durk, Chris Brown & others.
Fabolous returns with some new material as he drops the third installment of his ‘Summertime Shootout 3‘ project series. The last installment of the series was released way back in 2016. The new album contains 16 tracks with guest appearances from Meek Mill, Tory Lanez, Lil Durk, Jeremih, Gucci Mane, Chris Brown, PnB Rock, 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla Sign, YFN Lucci, Jacquees, Teyana Taylor, and more.
Since its debut as his eleventh mixtape in late 2015, this is the third and final installment of the Summertime Shootout series, which includes Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, Rich Homie Quan, The Weeknd, and Dave East.
Summertime Shootout 2: The Level Up was released shortly after, both on Roc Nation x Def Jam in conjunction with Fab’s own Street Family record label imprint.
Fabolous launched the project on Instagram in August 2017 with the hashtag “#SummertimeShootout3OnTheWay.” The first song, “Ooh Yea,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, was released on July 8, 2018. The second song, “Choosy,” featuring Jeremih and Davido, was released on October 14, 2019. The third single, “B.O.M.B.S.,” was released on November 15, 2019. The music video for “Cold Summer,” directed by Diego Cruz, was released on March 27, 2020.
During an interview with Music Choice in August, Fabolous previewed Summer Shootout 3, explaining why he chose to release the mixtape parts during the colder months. “A lot of people used to always ask why it was called Summertime Shootout when they dropped in the winter. ‘Cause it wasn’t really, like, to the word ‘summertime’ it was really more about the feeling of summertime being good and bad for some people…” he said. “Everybody remembers summer for different things or certain summers for different things. Not to put a black cloud over summer because it’s always a time people look forward to and have a good time, but there’s ups and downs of it, as well. Even just the little things, like having to work in the heat sometimes—people hate that too. Just all around, that was the theme of it being called summertime and adding shootout to it.”
Fabolous recently announced that he and Pusha-T were in negotiations to release another collaboration tape. “I was talking to [Pusha T] about maybe doing one,” he told DJ Hed and Bootleg Kev. “It could be eight to 10 songs. Me and Push probably already have two songs. Me and Dave East probably have about three songs.”
