Eminem drops his new album “Music To Be Murdered By”.
Guess Who’s Back? Eminem is back again as he starts his 2020 with a brand new surprise album called “Music To Be Murdered By“, just like his previous surprise album ‘Kamikaze‘ in 2018. The album contains 20 tracks with guest appearances from Black Thought, Royce 5’9″, Ed Sheeran, Juice WRLD, Anderson .Paak, Skylar Grey, KXNG Crooked, Young M.A., Don Oliver, and more.
7 of the 20 tracks are produced by Dr. Dre and other tracks feature production from Royce, Eminem, Mr. Porter, Luis Resto, Skylar Grey, Dawaun Parker, and more.
Eminem’s eleventh studio album, Music to Be Murdered By, is his eleventh studio album. Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records released it on January 17, 2020. In a similar vein to his previous studio album Kamikaze, it was released without warning (2018). Eminem and Dr. Dre, among others, contributed to the album’s production. Alfred Hitchcock and Jeff Alexander’s 1958 spoken word album Alfred Hitchcock Presents “Music to Be Murdered By” inspired the album’s title, cover art, and concept. Two singles were released to promote the album: “Darkness” and “Godzilla.”
In addition to the album’s surprise release, Eminem also released the music video for “Darkness,” which depicts the 2017 Las Vegas shooting from the perspective of the perpetrator Stephen Paddock, as well as Eminem’s own.
In its first week, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 279,000 album-equivalent units. Eminem went on to become the first artist to have ten consecutive number-one albums in the United States, and one of only six artists to have had at least ten number-one albums in the United States.
The album’s tracks have also received a total of 217.6 million on-demand streams. Music to Be Murdered By had sold over 1,053,000 equivalent units as of December 2020, with 249,000 pure sales. In other countries, the album debuted at number one. It was Eminem’s 11th number-one album in Canada, debuting at number one with 33,000 album-equivalent units on the Canadian Albums Chart.
Music critics praised Eminem’s lyrical abilities and the album’s improved production following Kamikaze, but they criticized the album’s formulaic song structure, lack of innovation, and shock value.
