Benny The Butcher drops his new project ‘The Plugs I Met 2’ feat 2 Chainz, Fat Joe & more.
After giving us the ‘Thanksgiving‘ song & video recently, Benny The Butcher continues releasing new material as he drops his new joint album ‘The Plugs I Met 2‘ with Harry Fraud. The follow-up to his 2019 effort contains a total of 9 records. Benny hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down here, following his impressive performance on his Hit-Boy-produced project Burden of Proof. Benny is speaking for the blocks that raised him when he raps, “For street n***as I’m the new catalyst, but who fathomed it/ My hero’s in federal sweatsuits and New Balances,” a reference to the project cover art of Alejandro Sosa meeting Tony Montana in Brian De Palma’s legendary Scarface.
The project features guest appearances from Chinx, 2 Chainz, Fat Joe, French Montana, Jim Jones, and Rick Hyde. The album was accompanied by a music video for “Plug Talk,” which features 2 Chainz and takes cues from Benny’s lyrics and begins with the rapper in an exclusive interview with a journalist, where he discusses his new project as well as the November incident in Houston in which he was shot in the leg. It then cuts to a ‘Hustlers Anonymous’ meeting, with Benny and 2 Chainz in attendance.
The bars of a holy ex-dope dealer reverberate throughout The Plugs I Met 2, echoing through the damaged cathedral on tracks like “Plug Talk,” which features 2 Chainz, and “Longevity,” which has drug-talk veteran Jim Jones and French Montana discussing how to establish a rap empire.
When asked how this project differs from Burden of Proof, Benny answered that it was the location and producers who contributed to each project’s own energy. “I recorded both projects [Burden Of Proof & The Plugs I Met 2] at the same time, so it’s the same headspace; but a different energy. I recorded Burden Of Proof in Cali with Hit-Boy and The Plugs I Met 2 in Brooklyn with Harry and you can hear that influence”
