21 Savage & Metro Boomin drops ‘Savage Mode 2’ album feat Drake, Young Thug & others.
After sharing a Morgan Freeman narrated trailer a few days ago, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin have released their new joint album ‘Savage Mode 2‘. The project contains 15 tracks with guest appearances from Drake, Young Thug, and Young Nudy.
21 Savage and Metro Boomin have been hyping “Savage Mode 2”, the follow-up to their adored 2016 mixtape “Savage Mode”, for the better part of four years. Savage said in The FADER’s 2016 cover article on him that the pair have recorded 20 to 30 new songs for the album. Now, four years later, Savage and Metro Boomin have announced that “Savage Mode 2” will be released on all streaming sites on Friday, October 2, following a 28,000-signature petition from fans requesting the album.
Along with the news, the two have released a cinematic trailer for the album, directed by Gibson Hazard and narrated by Morgan Freeman, as well as a new merchandising line and a phone number for fans to contact. 21 Savage announced the project’s postponement in March of this year, citing the necessity to make everything perfect for listeners. Fans of the two musicians initiated a petition a few months later, in September, to have the project released sooner rather than later. The petition swiftly gathered over 28,000 signatures, forcing Metro and the “A Lot” rapper’s hand, as 21 stated a week later that he and Metro will finally be putting an end to the fans’ wait for their new album.
With 171,000 album-equivalent units, Savage Mode II debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. (including 22,000 pure album sales). This was 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s second number-one debut in the United States. During that week, the album received a total of 200.1 million on-demand streaming of its tracks.
