Spillage Village drops its “Spilligion” album.
After giving us a few singles, the Spillage Village group has released their new album called “Spilligion“. The Group includes J.I.D, Earthgang, Mereba, Jurdan Bryant, Hollywood JB, and Benji.
The project contains 12 tracks in total and features guest appearances from Chance The Rapper, 6LACK, Buddy, and more.
The project was primarily completed during quarantine when the majority of the members had little to do. When J.I.D rented a mansion in Atlanta to record his third album, he had the idea for the album.
Since early March, Spiligion has been teased, and it does not disappoint. The album’s two lead singles, “End of Daze” and “Baptize,” demonstrate this, with both tracks highlighting the album’s diverse sound palette. Each track on the album is also named from a religious text or scripture, with the content of the song matching what the name alludes to symbolically. Spillage Village encapsulates Atlanta’s ever-changing soundtrack, which continues to shape the city’s music culture. Despite taking a brief sabbatical following the release of their most recent album, Bears Like This Too Much, in 2016, the group has since expanded to include musicians and producers such as 6lack, Hollywood JB, Jurdan Bryant, Mereba, and Benji.
“We always did that communal thing,” he adds of Spillage Village and the Rollingstone project. “In this situation, I figured, ‘We may as well do it because nobody else is doing anything.'” It was a similar idea to how the band and other contributors came together in Atlanta to make Dreamville’s critically praised collection Revenge of The Dreamers III.
