Kendrick Lamar drops the “Untitled Unmastered” EP.
As promised, We get a new project from TDE. Kendrick Lamar drops his new EP titled “Untitled Unmastered“. The project contains 8 records that K.Dot has been performing live over the past few years.
A compilation album seemed to be the ideal answer to To Pimp a Butterfly’s overwhelming opus. Untitled unmastered is a compilation of unreleased Kendrick Lamar songs produced prior to his sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly. It documents the doubt and reluctance of Lamar’s excursion into an overtly jazz soundscape but also increasing admiration for what TPaB became.
It builds on that work’s exploration of politically charged and philosophical issues, as well as its experiments with free jazz, soul, avant-garde music, and funk forms. The compilation album got tremendous critical praise and debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200.
The biggest strength of untitled unmastered. is how well it fits into Kendrick Lamar’s discography: it serves as both an appetizer and a palate cleanser for To Pimp a Butterfly, with production dating back to 2011’s Section.
Untitled unmastered systemic injustice, the creation of identity in the ghetto, Lamar’s prominence as a hip-hop hero, religious commitment, and self-awareness are all subjects that we anticipate to be explored in a Kendrick Lamar album.
