21 Savage drops “Spiral: From The Book of Saw” EP feat Gunna Young Thug & more.
After giving us the title track earlier this month, 21 Savage has dropped his new short EP called “Spiral: From The Book of Saw“. The soundtrack is in support of the upcoming Samuel Jackson and Chris Rock’s movie.
The EP contains a pack of 4 tracks with guest appearances from Gunna, Young Thug, Young Nudy, and more. Earlier tonight, 21 Savage also contributed to J. Cole’s new album “The Off-Season” on the song called “My Life“.
“Savage Mode II,” 21 Savage’s most recent project, featured him dabbling in horror film themes as well. Drake, Young Thug, and Young Nudy contributed to the album, which was a collaboration between the rapper and Metro Boomin. Following its release in October, Savage Mode II debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it both Savage and Metro Boomin’s second No. 1 album.
Spiral is about a seasoned cop and his colleague who “take control of a macabre investigation into killings that are disturbingly evocative of the city’s dark past.” The film serves as both a reboot and a sequel, with Rock’s character ultimately being drawn into the mystery killer’s game, which is eerily similar to the iconic Jigsaw killings of the previous films in the series.
The video for “Spiral” was shot in Las Vegas’ SAW escape room and features footage from the film. Savage and the music are prominently featured in Lionsgate’s film and promotional campaigns. The mutual admiration extends to Savage’s use of the melody from the first SAW film’s “Hello Zepp.”
You Ain’t Hard” and “Down Bad” featuring Millie Go Lightly elevate the movie’s haunting plot with fast-paced tempos and hard-hitting lyrics, while the final track “Emergency” featuring Gunna and Young Thug rounds out the cinematic EP with a slow-building rhythm that intensifies suspense.
The horror film, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, follows a police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), a detective (Chris Rock), and a rookie (Max Minghella) on an eerie investigation into a city’s historical murder cases, all while attempting to thwart a Jigsaw-style killer.
