New Video Royce 5'9 - Overcomer (Feat. Westside Gunn)

Royce 5’9 drops a new song ‘Overcomer’.

After giving us ‘Black Savage‘ back in November, Royce 5’9 returns with some more new material as he teams up with Westside Gunn for a new song and video called ‘Overcomer‘. He also featured on Eminem’s new surprise album ‘Music To Be Murdered By‘.

The video for “Over Comer,” directed by Cricket, alternates between shots of Royce and rapper Westside Gunn performing the sweeping rap ballad and scenes representing a young musician’s turbulent rise. While the musician’s story begins with him sitting at a piano, he quickly finds himself involved in a back alley battle, and a recording session concludes with his kidnapping. In the video’s closing scene, the musician sits in a courtroom, his face covered in tattoos and his hair coloured in rainbow hues, and picks out one of the men who attacked him.

The rapper touched on this very track on a recent episode of Joe Budden‘s podcast, stating: He gonna know why, for sure,” before alluding to a racist incident. “I mean, It’s a situation going on, especially in hip-hop, OK: We have all kinds of different people, but we have a type of person in particular. We have white people, white people who come into the business and they use the culture—which we got a very open culture, it’s here for everybody to thrive.” Royce and Westside’s verses are powerful, yet they’re conducted like a ballad behind the percussion-free verses and booming drums throughout the chorus.

In the new track, Royce takes some shots at former Shady Records’ member Yelawolf. Listen to it below.
