Every year, XXL releases their Freshman Class which features New Artists who already reach new heights or going to make it big soon. Now XXL is back with the Freshman Class of 2017.

The annual XXL Freshman Class concert will be held on both expenses this year, as is customary. The Playstation Theater in New York City will host the performance on Wednesday, June 28. The XXL Freshman Cover features Ugly God, PnB Rock, Amine, Kyle, Playboi Carti, Kap G, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Madeintyo, Kamaiyah and the winner for 10th position is XXXTentacion. XXL also released a video for the announcement.

Artists including Anderson.Paak, Desiigner, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, and Lil Yachty Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown, Chance the Rapper, Lil B, Kid Cudi, Tink, and Iggy Azalea are among the previous XXL Freshmen.

Kamaiyah’s debut mixtape, A Good Night in the Ghetto, was awarded the No. 47 Album of 2016 by Pitchfork last year. “Supa Dupa Fly: Kamaiyah Bosses Up,” a Rising feature, may be found here.

XXXTentacion’s career has been marred by controversy. He is scheduled to appear in court in Miami-Dade County on charges of aggravated abuse on a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false detention, and witness tampering. When he pled no guilty to charges of armed home invasion robbery and aggravated violence with a pistol, he was released from prison after nearly six months. He is currently on probation for six years. He was knocked out on stage at a recent event in San Diego. After that, there was a brawl, which resulted in one person being stabbed.

This one is extra significant because it is the Freshman franchise’s tenth anniversary. The Freshman franchise has grown in popularity over the last decade since the first issue was released in 2007. And it all comes together, in the same manner, it did at the outset.

The XXL Summer 2017 issue also includes interviews with Black Thought, Yo Gotti, and Sonny Digital, who led the Freshman cyphers this year; a look at all 10 years of Freshman classes by the numbers; the finest projects from 104 Freshmen over the years; and much more.
