A tribute concert for the late rapper Mac Miller, who passed away back in September at 26 after a drug overdose, took place tonight at the Greek Theatre in L.A. Last week, Mac’s family, along with his management team announced that the ‘Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life’ tribute concert will be live streamed for all the fans.

The concert featured performances from Action Bronson, Anderson .Paak, Chance The Rapper, Dylan Reynolds, Earl Sweatshirt, John Mayer, Miguel, ScHoolboy Q, SZA, Travis Scoot, Ty Dolla Sign, Vince Staples and more.

Mac Miller died in September after what seemed to be a heroin overdose. His death sparked a worldwide outpouring of sadness, and this performance is one of many events that bear witness to Miller’s influence throughout his brief life. The proceeds from the show will benefit The Mac Miller Circles Fund, which, according to its website, “will provide programming, resources, and opportunities to youth from underserved communities, assisting them in realising their full potential through exploration in the arts and community building.”

Miller’s mother, Karen Meyers, had earlier in the day written a note about the show on her Instagram account. “Thank you to all the artists, friends and partners for helping to bring this all to fruition … in honor of wonderful Malcolm … who is in all of our hearts,” she wrote in the caption.

She also issued a statement in which she stated that the concert’s high-profile support is “a testimony to Malcolm’s remarkable life.” “His father, brother and I are beyond thankful to everyone who is working to make this concert happen along with every fan and every friend for continuing to support Malcolm and his vision,” Meyers said. “He was a caring, loving human with a smile that could light up the sky and a soul that was out to make the world a kinder place and the (Mac Miller Circles Fund) will continue to do just that.”

Miller died less than two months ago at the age of 26. The accident occurred approximately a month after he released Swimming, his fifth studio album. The Pittsburgh-born rapper spoke to Vulture about his mental condition throughout the recording process just before the project’s release.
“I really wouldn’t want just happiness. And I don’t want just sadness either. I don’t want to be depressed. I want to be able to have good days and bad days. I can’t imagine not waking up sometimes and being like, ‘I don’t feel like doing shit.’ And then having days where you wake up and you feel on top of the world.”

Miller was working on the record as a follow-up to Swimming when he died. Jon Brion, who worked with Miller on both albums, finished the production. With 164,000 units sold in its first week, Circles opened at number three on the Billboard 200, giving him his best performance ever for an album. “Good News,” the album’s lead single, became his highest-charting song as a lead artist, reaching number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100.
