Eminem kicked off Detroit Lions NFL 2018 Season.
The new NFL season kicked off last week but earlier tonight it was the season opener for The Detroit Lions as they took on New York Jets. To start their new campaign, Detroit Lions invited none other than Eminem for the coin toss, whose songs regularly played at Ford Field every week.
Eminem stepped out to the middle as an honorary captain with several of the Lions players, wearing a black Lions hoody that he wore up over his head as usual. He didn’t do much, though, other than standoff to the side while the Jets were the guests and were given the option of choosing heads or tails. For the record, the Lions did, in fact, win the coin toss.
However, the game did not go well for Em and the Lions, as the Jets, led by Sam Darnold, thrashed Detroit 48-17, giving new head coach Matt Patricia something to work on ahead of next week’s game against the 49ers.
Eminem and his connection with NFL aren’t limited to making an appearance. Eminem took a knee during the performer Super Bowl halftime performance, turning into one of the most talked-about moments of the year’s greatest athletic event.
On Sunday night, while playing “Lose Yourself,” the 15-time Grammy winner dropped down on one knee and clutched his head. It looked to be a nod to free agency quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick, who led knee demonstrations during the national anthem in 2016 to highlight police brutality and racial inequality. Kaepernick has claimed that the demonstrations have kept him off the field.
Check out some footage and pictures below. Eminem will also be releasing a new video with Joyner Lucas for his Kamikaze song “Lucky You” this Wednesday afternoon at 1 pm ET.
